In only four years of existence, the North Forney High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) Organization received the Golden Horizon Chapter Award at the 85th Annual Texas FFA Convention at the Dallas Convention Center on July 10, 2013.
According to North Forney FFA Alumni President Wendy Willey, the North Forney FFA is now ranked 6th in the state for single-teacher chapters. “The North Forney FFA has only been around for four years, but in those four years they have done some great things,” said Willey.
During the convention, five members of the North Forney FFA were designated as voting delegates and were able to participate in the business session known as Parliamentary Procedure. This year's Parliamentary Procedure is the first business session to ever go into recess and was the longest business session in 85 years of Texas FFA history.
Two members of the North Forney FFA were also awarded the American FFA Degree, the highest level of Degree Membership awarded by the National FFA Organization. The American FFA Degree award recipients were Brittany Recer and Andy Hatcher. Recer and Hatcher are now the first two FFA members from North Forney FFA to earn the American Degree. Both members will be presented their degrees at the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, in October 2013.
The American FFA Degree is a sign of great accomplishment and very few FFA members earn this degree each year, according to the National FFA Organization's website. The highest percentage of members ever to receive the degree in one year was less than one half of one percent.
The North Forney FFA also had seven members presented with their Lone Star Degrees at the 85th Annual Texas FFA Convention. Those recipients were Daniel Wilcox, Matthew Jenkin, Emily Willey, Tanner Cole, Morgan Harris, Cheyenne Stone, and Macey Clinard.
