The Forney High School band scheduled their 2nd Annual March-A-Thon for August 17, 2013. The March-A-Thon will follow the same route as last year but will end at the Spellman Amphitheater with a free 15-minute concert.
The route will begin in the Trails of Chestnut Meadow neighborhood at 9:00 a.m. at the intersection of FM 548 and Cedar Elm Trial. The first route will end at Claybon Elementary School.
The second route the band will take is through the Fox Hollow neighborhood around 10:30 a.m. beginning at the intersection of Fox Hollow Blvd and Rogers Parkway. The route will wind through the neighborhood and end back at Rogers Parkway.
The band will then end the March-A-Thon at the Spellman Amphitheater at around noon for the free 15-minute concert. (See route map pictured below.)
Like last year's event, the FHS band will accept donations of $100 or more for a personal performance, or lawn concert as it's being called, in front of your house. Don't live along the route? Don't worry, says FHS Band Booster Fundraising Director Krista Harrington, “You can choose an empty lot or a friend's house along the route.”
The lawn concerts last about five minutes and the donor will be given the chance to choose from a list of songs for the band to play. Last year, the band performed 14 lawn concerts and Harrington says they hope to increase that number.
Students have also begun taking pledges for the march. Many students are accepting pledges per mile or a flat pledge for the entire route. Band parents will also accompany the band along the route to help collect donations.
