Texas’ annual sales tax holiday “tax-free weekend” is underway and back-to-school shoppers will see a slight relief in shopping expenses this weekend. The tax-free weekend is scheduled from today, August 9, 2013, until Sunday, August 11, 2013.
According to Texas Comptroller Susan Combs, families can save approximately $8 per $100 spent on select items and school supplies priced under $100 for each item. Statewide, the comptroller’s office estimates that shoppers will save $78.9 million in state and local taxes.
Items eligible for tax free purchases include most clothing items, footwear, backpacks, and school supplies.
