The City of Forney announced the immediate closure of Reeder Road on August 14, 2013. The road will be closed between Reeder Lane and County Road 217.
“The road is too deteriorated to allow for vehicle traffic. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause as we work to resolve this issue quickly,” read a statement from the City of Forney.
Assistant City Manager Gina Nash said the road deteriorated a lot quicker than was planned due to a wetter than normal summer, high temperatures, and heavy vehicles in the area for ongoing construction projects. The City of Forney received an overwhelming number of calls and emails complaining about the condition of the road.
Nash says the City is working to implement the quickest fix to the road which may include a partnership with the county, taking bids from construction companies, or implementing city resources. Reeder Road is a chip-and-seal type road and requires different equipment than the city's asphalt and concrete machinery.
The road could ultimately be closed for several weeks while a repair is sought but Nash says the City is doing everything it can to tackle the issue as quick as possible.
