Texas Governor Rick Perry spoke at a press conference the morning of April 4, 2013, in the Kaufman County Courthouse. Governor Perry announced the Governor's Office is offering an additional $100,000 reward in the now three unsolved murders in Kaufman County.
With this announcement, the total reward amount being offered by the Kaufman County Crime Stoppers is $200,000 for information leading to an arrest and indictment for the suspect(s) involved in the January 31, 2013, murder of Kaufman County's Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse and the March 30, 2013, murders of Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland and his wife, Cynthia, in their home.
During a press conference following Mark Hasse's murder, District Attorney McLelland said, “I hope that the people that did this are watching because we're very confident that we're going to find you, we're going to pull you out of whatever hole you're in, and we're going to bring you back and let the people of Kaufman County prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.”
Governor Perry echoed the words of DA McLelland in this morning's press conference saying, “...we're going to hunt you down, we're going to punish you ... we will leave no stone unturned.”
Kaufman County Judge Bruce Wood, Kaufman County Sheriff David Byrnes, Interim District Attorney Brandi Fernandez, Kaufman County's State Representative Lance Gooden, Kaufman County's Senator Bob Deuell, and many more law enforcement officials were in attendance at the press conference.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation also launched a billboard campaign in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, and New Mexico that will display a picture of Mark Hasse and DA Mike McLelland, and his wife Cynthia McLelland. (see below)
