The North Forney Falcons football team is already off to a good start, noticeably better than last year says Falcons Head Coach Lance Gary.
Senior Hunter Herndon, who broke his foot late in the season last year, will be returning for the 2013-14 season in the quarterback position. Weighing approximately 225 pounds and 6-foot 1-inch tall, Herndon is definitely a force to reckon with in the pocket.
“Mr. A&M,” Armani Watts, who filled the quarterback vacancy full-time after Herndon's injury, will now return to playing running back and receiver on offense and starting in the safety position on defense. Watts verbally committed to play football for Texas A&M University last season. Although Herndon is back, don't be surprised to see Watts in the shotgun position occasionally.
The Falcons play in District 10-4A along with crosstown rival the Forney High School Jackrabbits and perennial powerhouses such as Highland Park, Poteet, and West Mesquite.
During a preseason practice, Coach Gary told inForney.com to watch out for several other players on the Falcons' roster, including: returning senior and 10-4A All-District first team inside linebacker Bryce Ford; senior and 10-4A All-District second team defensive tackle Patrick Ellis; senior tailback and corner Tritavious Jones; senior defensive lineman Andre Davis; senior tight end and outside linebacker Taylor Durham; receiver and cornerback Derrick Mosley; and kicker Hunter McClain.
The Falcons scrimmaged Little Elm at City Bank Stadium in Forney on August 23, 2013, and now await their first preseason game against Frisco on August 30, 2013, at Forney's City Bank Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
