The Forney Arts Council held its 2nd Annual Forney Arts Festival in downtown Forney, Texas, last weekend. The two day festival was held on Saturday and Sunday, September 14-15, 2013.
This year's festival was held in conjunction with the Lions Club's 20th Annual Lions Club 5K run that had its start and finish line in the heart of downtown. The run brought over a hundred people downtown to kickoff the festival.
The festival saw its biggest draw on Saturday morning when the temperatures couldn't have been more perfect. Foot traffic slowly diminished as the unseasonably warm temperatures increased. The hot temperatures, however, were beneficial for the kids waiting in the clay-molding booth for their crafty clay sculptures to dry.
No matter which corner of the festival you were in you could hear music being played from one of the two stages that were booked with entertainment. The Forney Arts Council building also held live cooking demonstrations from area chefs.
“There were a lot of great people out here,” said Rosemary Pope of Rosemary's Homemade Goods. Rosemary was selling high quality handcrafted bags and diaper bags. “I started making and selling these bags to help fund our family's plan to adopt a baby from Congo.”
Forney's Z-Bra Girls were also there selling breakfast tacos and tostadas to raise money for the annual Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk. “It's been a really successful weekend for us,” said Z-Bra team member Nina Rangel.
Planning for next year's arts festival has already begun. For more information about the arts scene in Forney, visit www.ForneyArts.org.
