The team competed against teams from all over the United States and Canada including the Arlington, Farmers Branch, and McKinney Fire Departments from the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. The competition announcer drew laughs from the crowd when Forney Combat went head-to-head against Farmers Branch and introduced Forney's Russell Bannister as having the 2013 Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge mustache of the year.
In the Round of 16 of the Lion's Invitational, the Forney Combat team finished 11th place with a relay time of 33.73. The Forney Combat team includes Forney firefighters Lt. David Lawson, Russell Bannister, Ryan Elder, Josh Everett, and Tyler Sullivan.
