33-year-old Kirk Wayne Sandin was arrested by the Forney Police Department and charged with two counts of burglary of a building and held on $35,000 bond for each charge. Sandlin is also being held on an unspecified charge from the Dallas Police Department and held on a $250 bond.
31-year-old Jason William Byrne was also arrested and charged with two counts of burglary of a building and is being held on a $25,000 bond for each count. Byrne is also charged with fraudulent use or possession of identifying information under five items on a $35,000 bond and one count of obscured or altered license plate on a $177 bond.
According to several tenants of Marquis Ranch Self Storage, they were notified by management of the burglaries on Monday morning, December 30, 2013, after being burglarized the previous night. According to the same tenants, the burglars concentrated on stealing tools and equipment or “easily accessible items.”
The burglars gained access to the unit by cutting the latches with the locks still intact, according to the tenants who spoke with inForney.com. They also used other measures to gain access to the facility.
The burglars allegedly returned to the storage units on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, when they were apprehended by the Forney Police Department. According to the tenants, surveillance footage may have played a role in apprehending the suspects.
It is unclear if the Forney Police Department was able to recover any of the stolen goods. A request for additional information was made on Friday, January 3, 2014, to the Forney Police Department's spokesperson. However, no further information has been made available at the time of reporting.
