Junior Haley Asire showed a Landrace Gilt and placed 5th place overall. Sophomore Dakota Rollins showed a heifer and placed 8th overall. Junior Corbin Middlebrook showed Bershire Gilts and Warren Middle School student Anna Hatcher showed her Wether Goat.

Junior Miranda Allen, senior Taylor Pierce, freshman Nikki Scarborough, freshman Gracie Ralston, and Warren Middle School student Joycelyn Garnica showed their Wether Lambs.

“These students put a lot of care, hard work, time, and expense into these livestock projects,” said Forney High School FFA Booster Club President Randy Asire. According to Asire, students will also compete at the San Antonio Rodeo and Stock Show this week, the Houston Livestock Show, and the Kaufman County Junior Livestock Show at the end of March.

Not only do the students compete at stock shows but they also compete in Leadership Development Events and Career Development Events, says Asire. “These events focus on creating situations for members to demonstrate their abilities in public speaking, decision making, communication, and their knowledge of agriculture and the FFA organization.”

Career Development Events encourage students to put their agricultural classroom knowledge into practice. Leadership Development Events are held in the fall and Career Development Events are held in the spring.
