KAUFMAN, Texas – The heated rematch between State Representative Lance Gooden and Tea Party challenger Stuart Spitzer for House District 4 has come to an end with Spitzer narrowly defeating the incumbent.

House District 4 represents Kaufman County and a portion of Henderson County – where Spitzer failed to garner enough votes two years ago. This election, Spitzer defeated the incumbent with a mere 23 votes in Henderson County, according to unofficial election totals. Spitzer also won Kaufman County by 319 votes for 51.72 percent.
“I gotta start out with a bunch of thank yous because there's no stinking way that I could do this without people knocking on doors and walking and talking to people and standing at the polls. Sometimes you win by showing up and we showed up,” Spitzer said to a crowd in Kaufman County.
Spitzer received 2,850 early votes and 1,937 election day votes for a total of 4,787 votes in Kaufman County. Gooden received 2,533 early votes and 1,935 election day votes for a total of 4,468 Kaufman County votes.
In Henderson County, Spitzer received 3,634 votes to Gooden's 3,611 votes.
