TERRELL, Texas – Groundbreaking has begun on a $1.8 million road widening project on Farm-to-Market (FM) 148, according to a Texas Department of Transportation news release this morning.

The project makes way for planned development in the area including the 36-acre Terrell Market Center, which will be home of the first north Texas Buc-ee's location, the Crossroads at Terrell, and a 52-acre tract of land owned by Baylor Health Care Systems.
The project will widen FM 148 from two lanes to four lanes from Spur 557 to Interstate 20 and will also include drainage and illumination. “The project is less than a mile long and will include widening shoulders to a consistent eight-foot width throughout the project, adding a 14-foot center turn lane and 14-foot outside lanes to accommodate bicycles,” according to the release.
Improvements will also be made to the Spur 557 entry and exit ramps at FM 148. The project is being funded as a Terrell Pass-Through project, a TxDOT program, and was awarded to APAC-Texas Inc.
The Buc-ee's, a 60,000 square foot super-sized travel center, will be built on 20 of the 36 acres at the Terrell Market Center. The Terrell Market Center will be located at the intersections of I-20, FM 148, and Spur 557, and will be located east of FM 148.
The Crossroads at Terrell will be located to the west of FM 148. Phase 1 of The Crossroads at Terrell development will consist of nearly 225,000 square feet of retail space which could include a large entertainment theatre anchor, approximately five large junior box anchors, and a “slew” of restaurants, according to Vice President Matthew Gallo of Connect Acquisitions at The Retail Connection.
