According to Crandall Assistant Chief Grant Cousins, the fire department received several 911 calls at approximately 10:15 p.m. about smoke coming from the building, which is located at 1500 U.S. Highway 175 Frontage Road, in Crandall, Texas. When the fire department arrived on scene they could see heavy smoke coming from the building.
Cousins said the restaurant was not open at the time of the fire call and nobody was inside the building. “Our units made entry at the front door and located the fire near the back of the building above an office,” said Cousins.
The fire was knocked down at approximately 11 p.m. and fire investigators were able to enter the building. There were no fire sprinklers in the area affected by the fire.
The restaurant sustained damage to the office and a nearby hallway. It also sustained heavy smoke and water damage as a result of the fire. Overall, the building remains intact. It is unknown how long the restaurant will be closed for repairs, if needed. The quick response from area fire departments prevented what could have been a devastating fire.
At this time, the cause of fire has yet to be determined. The Kaufman County Fire Marshal's Office will investigate the exact cause of the fire.
A mutual aid call went out at approximately 10:20 p.m. to area fire departments. Fire departments from Seagoville, Combine, Forney, and Kaufman responded.
