Kaufman County: Prosecutor, former interim DA resigns and new judge sworn in
Kaufman County prosecutor Brandi Fernandez resigned from her post at the District Attorney's office on Monday, April 29.

Fernandez served as the interim District Attorney after the murder of DA Mike McLelland on March 30, 2013. Judge Erleigh Norville Wiley was later appointed by Governor Rick Perry to be Kaufman County's District Attorney, replacing Fernandez, and will serve the remainder of McLelland's term.

The resignation comes only a week after Wiley was sworn in and it is still unclear why Fernandez chose to resign. DA Wiley previously served 10 years as a Kaufman County Judge in the County Court at Law.

On May 1, defense attorney Dennis Jones was sworn in as the new judge in the County Court at Law, Wiley's former seat. Kaufman County Commissioners made that appointment last Friday. Jones has been practicing law in Texas since 1979.
