ROCKWALL COUNTY, Texas – Former Hunt County Constable Anthony Dewayne Lewis who was convicted of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon was pronounced dead of an apparent suicide on April 30, 2014, in his prison cell in Beaumont, Texas.

Lewis pled guilty, and was serving a 60-year sentence, for the shooting death of his ex-girlfriend, 33-year-old Jessica Aguilar, and the shooting of her male companion, Francisco Delacruz, at the Rockwall Harbor on February 16, 2013.
According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, 49-year-old Lewis was found on the floor of his assigned cell at the Stiles Unit in Beaumont, Texas, on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at 12:27 p.m. “He had what appeared to be a self-inflicted laceration to the right side of his neck,” read a statement from TDCJ Public Information Officer Robert Hurst
Lewis was taken to the unit infirmary where he was pronounced dead at 12:40 p.m. The incident is under investigation by the Office of Inspector General.
Lewis led police on a tri-county police pursuit in his black Mini Cooper after the shooting in an overflow parking lot at the Rockwall Harbor, in Rockwall, Texas. The chase went through Rockwall County, Dallas County, and Hunt County.
The chase ended after Lewis' vehicle hit spike strips and eventually came to a stop. According to Rockwall Police, Lewis, after a brief standoff, “exited his vehicle, pointed a handgun at the officers, and was shot by officers on the scene.”
In 1996, Lewis served two consecutive terms as Precinct 2 Constable in Hunt County.
