FORNEY, Texas – Forney Independent School District Superintendent Michael Holland announced his resignation today, May 12, 2014, which will take effect later this summer, possibly July. Holland accepted the Executive Director role at the Education Service Center Region 6 in Huntsville, Texas.

Superintendent Holland joined the district in August of 2011 and took on the role of restoring the district's financial standing after a $13.6 million shortfall with the Texas Education Agency for financial misstatements from 2007 to 2011 – a goal which Holland says is now on track.
“Now that Forney ISD is back in good financial order, I feel that I am at the stage of my career to try and impact an even larger number of students and educators,” stated Holland in a district-wide employee email. “Therefore, it is with very mixed emotions, I have accepted the Executive Director role at the Education Service Center Region 6 in Huntsville.”
The Forney ISD Board of Trustees extended Holland's contract in May 2013 through the 2016-17 school year. The Board of Trustees will likely begin the superintendent search as soon as possible, according to a district official.
Although probably the darkest times in Forney ISD history, Holland said his time with the district has been rewarding. “My time here in Forney has been a rewarding time in my life and I have made many treasured friendships. It has truly been an honor to work for a great school board and alongside an amazing staff.”
Below is Superintendent Holland's email to Forney ISD staff:
As you know, I feel public education is the best profession in the world. I have had the honor of serving as a Superintendent for almost 20 years now. During that time it has been my desire that my efforts would have a positive impact on the lives of many children and staff. Now that Forney ISD is back in good financial order, I feel that I am at the stage of my career to try and impact an even larger number of students and educators. Therefore, it is with very mixed emotions, I have accepted the Executive Director role at the Education Service Center Region 6 in Huntsville. My time here in Forney has been a rewarding time in my life and I have made many treasured friendships. It has truly been an honor to work for a great school board and alongside an amazing staff. Forney ISD has been a special place for my wife and me. I wish the best for the students, staff, and community and I will work very hard to ensure a smooth transition until I leave later this summer.
