According to court records, the motion to dismiss the state jail felony charge of tampering with a governmental record was filed and granted on April 30, 2014. The jury trial scheduled for May 5 was subsequently canceled.
Law, who was first appointed as Precinct 2 Constable in 2004, issued a resignation letter on April 11, 2014, after surrendering any license(s) or certificate(s) issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement on April 1, 2014.
In a written statement to the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, Law stated, “I have admitted in a sworn statement to the Kaufman County District Attorney that I did commit the offense as alleged in that cause number by falsifying my required TLETS online certification materials.”
The Kaufman County Commissioner's Court appointed former Dallas County Constable's Sgt. Jason Johnson as Kaufman County Precinct 2 Constable on April 29, 2014, after the commissioners held a special meeting to interview potential candidates.
Johnson will serve as the constable until January 1, 2015, according to county officials. An election will be held in November with the executive committees from the Republican Party and the Democratic Party nominating candidates to appear on the ballot. According to Kaufman County Republican Party Chair Jimmy Weaver, the appointment of Johnson would “have no bearing” on their committee's decision in November.
