“There was a problem with an electrical outlet where an air conditioning unit had been plugged in,” Ewing told inForney.com earlier today. The “fire appears to have started at that location in the wall.”
The mobile home was occupied by an elderly female and a home health care nurse when the fire began – both were able to safely evacuate the home, according to officials. The nurse evacuated the resident and herself before calling 911.
Four Kaufman County fire departments fought the fire in the 1600 block of County Road 134 on June 3, 2014, at approximately 2:25 p.m. – College Mound, Elmo, Kaufman, and Terrell.
The departments were forced to fight the fire defensively from outside the home because of an abundance of fire and exploding ammunition and oxygen tanks inside the home. The mobile home had multiple additions and was fully involved when the College Mound Fire Department arrived on scene.
The elderly woman was treated at the scene by an East Texas Medical Center ambulance for difficulty breathing and did not require transport to the hospital.
