50-year-old Dr. John Adam Malonis of Fort Worth, Texas, was killed after his vehicle and another collided on I-20 near an overpass for Farm-to-Market (FM) 740 in Kaufman County – sending his vehicle over a guardrail and onto the road below. Another passenger in his vehicle was transported to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, in serious condition.
According to accident investigators, an initial accident investigation reveals Malonis was traveling in the left lane on eastbound I-20 in his 2008 Porsche SUV and two other individuals were traveling in the right lane of eastbound I-20 in a 2012 Cadillac. "For reasons unknown at this time, the two vehicles collided," reads a statement from the Mesquite Police Department.
After colliding, the Cadillac struck the right guardrail and rolled on I-20 and came to a rest on the highway. The Porsche “vaulted over the right side guardrail and rolled down the embankment and across FM 740 before coming to rest,” according to investigators.
The two occupants from the Cadillac were transported to Dallas Regional Hospital in Mesquite, Texas, with non-life threatening injuries.
Malonis was a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon at Lone Star Orthopaedic and Spine Specialist, PLLC, in Burleson, Texas. Malonis was affiliated with several areas hospitals including Plaza Medical Center of Fort Worth, Huguley Memorial Medical Center, and John Peter Smith also in Fort Worth, Texas, where he served his residency.
Friends, colleagues, and even recent patients left several comments on an earlier article about the accident on inForney.com including one from Pauline Jones who said, “He was a valued part of the Huguley [Memorial Medical Center] family and will be greatly missed. What a wonderful legacy for a skilled and devoted man.”
Woody Godby, a recent patient of Malonis, stated, “Dr. Malonis took care of my wife and I after a motorcycle accident … He was always kind and caring. I pray that God will comfort the family of this great surgeon and man.”
“He was an excellent well trained colleague and spinal surgeon,” stated friend and colleague Dr. John Sazy of Dallas, Texas. “I will miss him. Lets pray for his wife and family.”
“There were so many more lives he could have touched,” recent patient Linda Currier said. “Everyone who knew him must have loved him, as our family did.”
The crash is still under investigation by the Mesquite Police Department Traffic Section.
