Forney, Texas -- On Monday, May 20, 2013, the Forney Police Department began investigating a report of an attempted child abduction at Rhea Elementary in Forney ISD. The incident was reported after school hours and was reported to have taken place at approximately 8:00 p.m.
In a letter to parents of Rhea Elementary students, Principal Scott Fisher states, “We wanted to let you know that Forney ISD began working with the Forney Police Department immediately upon learning of this situation.” According to the letter, the Forney Police Department reviewed surveillance video from Rhea Elementary and “determined that no vehicle was ever seen matching the suspect vehicle description in the parking lot. In addition, the Forney Police reported that the video does not show any male subject approach a child from a vehicle.”
During the time the incident was reported to have taken place, a Forney Boy Scout troop was conducting a meeting inside Rhea Elementary. The child reported that he was approached by an “older man” who asked him to go home with him to play his Xbox gaming system. The child then went inside and told his mother who later notified scouting officials and the Forney Police Department.
The letter concludes, “The Forney Police have informed Forney ISD that they have inactivated the report due to the lack of evidence. Forney ISD is very concerned about the safety and security of every child in the District and we wanted to make sure we had all of the facts about this situation.”
