Nearly twelve thousand people attended the Forney’s 5th Annual Independence Day Celebration at the Forney Community Park on Saturday, June 29, 2013. This is the first year that a concert has been held in conjunction with the event.
The event was packed full of free family-oriented inflatable attractions, a zip line, a climbing wall, and all sorts of carnival games. The games were moved to the east side of the park this year to allow for more parking. Some people opted to park at nearby businesses or school campuses to watch the fireworks display.
This year’s fireworks display had an assortment of different designs including a few that had smiley faces and other multi-colored shells. The fireworks lasted approximately 20 minutes and ended with a 25 second finale.
After the fireworks display, Texas country music singer Roger Creager took the stage at the Mick Spellman Amphitheater in the biggest production to hit the stage since the completion of the amphitheater last year. Although the concert had lower than expected attendance, Roger Creager and his band provided an amazing performance in the intimate atmosphere.
Roger Creager and his band came fully prepared to entertain, at times playing a harmonica and a Louisiana washboard. Several people also won promotional backstage passes to meet Roger Creager before the show given out by the Forney Parks Department, radio station 95.3 The Range, and inForney.com. Creager was also available after the concert to sign autographs and meet fans.
The event was co-sponsored by the City of Forney and the Forney Parks and Recreation Department and is traditionally held the Saturday before the 4th of July.
