The Forney Jackrabbits football began their preseason at Royse City on Friday night, August 30, 2013. Still looking for their first 4A playoff win, Jackrabbits took the field sporting new uniforms with black sleeves, black numbers outlined in gold, and the solid black helmets with no decals.
Also new this year is defensive coordinator Kyle Abshire who previously played for Jackrabbit head coach Kevin Rush. Several longtime Jackrabbit coaches have also retired resulting in some new faces in coaching positions.
Royse City Bulldogs drew first blood in their second possession on a pass play for a touchdown but the point after was blocked by Forney's Marcus White. The first quarter possessions for Jackrabbits all resulted in punts, with one first down.
The second quarter saw Royse City move the ball consistently from deep in their own territory all the way to the Jackrabbit end zone for their second touchdown. The Bulldogs opted to go for two points but were denied by the Jackrabbit defense making the score 12 - 0.
The Jackrabbits managed to advance the ball deep in Bulldog territory in their next possession with several first downs. The first score for the Jackrabbits followed on a 16 yard running play by AJ Atnip. With a successful point after touchdown by kicker Rhett Coleman, Jackrabbits reduced the lead, 12 - 7.
A quarterback fake by Jake Guercia was followed by a handoff to Luke Skipper who threw a 63 yard pass to David Burnett for Forney's next touchdown to put the Jackrabbits on top. With a successful extra point, Jackrabbits took the lead, 14 - 12 and never looked back. Bulldogs had a long kickoff return into Jackrabbit territory but Jackrabbit defense subsequently managed a key interception to stop the advancing Bulldogs deep in Jackrabbit territory. The first half ended with no further scoring.

Jake Guercia soon rushed 16 yards for Forney's third touchdown of the game to take a 21 - 12 lead. The Bulldogs later had a field goal attempt blocked by Marcus White, who also blocked the point after touchdown attempt in the first quarter.
The fourth quarter had a rocky start for the Jackrabbits with a fumble by AJ Atnip but the Bulldogs were unable to capitalize on the error. The next possession for the Jackrabbits began on their own 2 yard line and resulted in a punt despite an impressive offensive drive but also resulted in the Bulldogs beginning their next possession deep in their own territory.
Jackrabbit defense managed to hold the Bulldogs to minimal gains, later forcing a punt. With a commanding lead, Jackrabbits ran as much time as possible off the clock on their next possession before punting the ball back to the Bulldogs who did not score on their final possession and ended the game losing to Forney, 21 - 12.
