Terrell, Texas - SH 34 was temporarily closed on Monday night for approximately one hour while the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department worked to clear an 18-wheeler tractor fire.
At approximately 9:20 p.m. the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department was called to the fire about four miles north of Terrell on SH 34. The fire fully engulfed the tractor's cab; the truck was not hauling a trailer at the time of the fire.
According to the driver of the tractor, he noticed his check engine light turn on and pulled over to check his engine compartment. The driver then noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment and re-entered the cab to grab a fire extinguisher when he noticed the fire entered the cab as well.
Before the fire could be extinguished, the entire tractor and its cab were burned and melted to the frame. While the Terrell VFD was fighting the fire, SH 34 in both directions was completely closed. No injuries were reported.
