Forney City Council recognizes United States Marine Corps recruit
18-year-old Jacob Flaishans attended the Forney City Council meeting on Tuesday night, September 3, 2013, where he was presented with a certificate of appreciation from the Forney City Council.
The Forney City Council presented Flaishans with the certificate of appreciation for his commitment to enter into the United States Marine Corps. The Forney High School graduate will report to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California, in November 2013 where he will remain until he completes recruit training in February 2014.

Jacob's father, Dave Flaishans, jokingly gave his son two words of advice after Jacob received his certificate, “good luck.”

Both of Jacob's grandfathers served in the Navy. One of them served 26 years and fought in World War II, Korea, and shore duty in Vietnam. The other served four years during the Korean War. Jacob's father also served 22 years in the Marine Corps.

Jacob says the legacy his relatives left behind was a major factor in deciding to enlist. “I'm following down the path that was laid out for me my entire life and also fulfilling a life-long dream to serve a grand country and the beautiful people within it,” says Jacob.

Current Forney City Council member Ray Stephens is also a retired Marine.
