Forney's Brookshire's is holding a Gatorade drive for the Forney Fire Department until September 24, 2013, in a “Quench Their Thirst” campaign.
For every five 32 ounce Gatorade bottles purchased and donated to the fire department you will receive 200 “yourpoints” at Brookshire's which can be redeemed for discounts on groceries and gas. According to Brookshire's, there is no limit to the number of bonus yourpoints you can earn by purchasing more than five bottles.
Firefighters use Gatorade and water to rehydrate at major fires, accidents, and other long incidents. Forney Fire Chief Rick Townsend said, “We're grateful that Brookshire's had the initiative to do this for us. Something that the public doesn't realize is how much water and Gatorade we use, especially during the high heat months.”
A firefighter's gear protects them from the heat of a fire but also traps the body's heat inside which can quickly result in heat related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heat strokes. Firefighters often times fight a fire for about 25 to 30 minutes before they are taken out of service and replaced while they are rehabbed and medically examined.
Townsend also said the Gatorade not only benefits the fire department but other first responders, police officers, and other personnel called to help with any given incident.
Brookshire's Food and Pharmacy in Forney is located at 427 Pinson Road and is open from 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. daily.
