Never Forget: Forney remembers September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks
September 11, 2013, marks the 12th anniversary America was riddled by the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil. A day when America changed forever.
Today, inForney.com gives a special thanks to the many heroes here in our own community. The firefighters, volunteer firefighters, police officers, and medical personnel that put their lives on the line every time they put on their uniform. Also being remembered are those not in uniform who rise to the occasion to help anyone in need.

Forney Fire Department Captain Phillip Pyle told inForney.com that, after September 11, 2001, “I took a lot more pride in what I was doing.”

Captain Pyle at the time of the attacks was a volunteer firefighter since April 2001. Less than a month after the attacks, Pyle signed on full-time with the Forney Fire Department on October 3, 2001. “It was an honor to do it [going full-time]” said Capt. Pyle.

Forney Mayor Darren Rozell issued this statement commemorating the 12th anniversary of the September 11th attacks:

“Everyone who observed the events of September 11, 2001, will remember the images and emotions for the rest of their lives.

In the days and weeks that followed, we were one nation ... no political parties, no races, no classes. We were all Americans, with a resolve that we would stand together in defiance of those who would do us harm.

We witnessed extreme examples of heroism: First responders, true to their duty, selflessly charging up stairways to rescue trapped innocents. The passengers of Flight 93, who sacrificed their lives to avert another unknown disaster. The servicemen and women who were, and are, committed to protecting our freedom.

We pause this day to remember the lives lost and sacrifices made. We do remember the evil intent of that day, but we also take pride in our strength and commitment as a nation.”
