Forney City Council updates and Forney University grads recognized
The Forney City Council started their September 17, 2013, council meeting by presenting graduates of the 2012-13 Forney University Next Generation class with certificates of achievement.
Forney University is a leadership and team building exercise class for City of Forney employees. “These people went above and beyond, they took a little extra time out of their day and their normal workload to get together as a group to make sure that they were doing the best they can for the organizations here in Forney,” said Forney Mayor Darren Rozell.

Presented with certificates of achievement were Lisa Denman, Thad Wilson, John Holcomb, BJ Putnam, Dodie Witt, Marquis Ivey, Steve Chenault, Kayla Bryson, and Michelle Jenkin.

Other city related business:

Council members approved unanimously a preliminary plat, final plat, and site plan for a proposed Kidd Academy which will be located on the southeast corner of FM 548 and FM 741. The child care facility will be 10,143 square feet and sit on a 3.31 acre lot. Council member Regan was absent for this week's meeting.

Council members also unanimously approved a residential subdivision final plat for Phase Five of the Trials of Chestnut Meadow subdivision. The area approved is approximately 21.188 acres and will have 60 lots, 58 residential.

The council members also approved a site plan for 107 South McGraw Street. The house will be converted from residential to commercial use and will house an attorney's office. The house is located on the northwest corner of the South McGraw Street and Pacific Street intersection.

The sewer service fee was reduced from $14 to $11 in the City's Master Fee Schedule.

City Council approved a $12,000 HOT Fund Grant to the City of Forney for use in the 2013 Christmas event.

A one-year inter-local agreement was approved with the City of Mesquite, in accordance with the FY 2013-14 budget, for mowing services in TxDOT right-of-ways.

City Council approved bid specifications and allowed city staff to advertise for a water and sewer supplies contract. According to Public Works Director Chris Metz, after analyzing purchasing data, potential savings could be made by bidding standard parts on a purchasing contract.

The last action item approved by the council was authorizing the City Manager to negotiate a contract with Lina T. Ramey & Associates to prepare right-of-way maps for TxDOT. The maps are required by TxDOT upon completion of Forney's Pass-Through Toll Projects. The contract will be paid from the elimination of the maps project from the city's current construction management company KBR's scope of work.

The next Forney City Council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at 7:00 p.m. at Forney City Hall.
