Kaufman County jury trial rescheduled in intoxication manslaughter case involving death of off-duty police officer
The Kaufman County jury trial for Warren “Ray” Patton Jr. who was indicted for the June 9, 2012, accident that killed off-duty Dallas County Constable Guy Farley has been rescheduled to February 18, 2014.
Patton was indicted by a Kaufman County Grand Jury on December 6, 2012, for intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle for the June accident in which he allegedly drove his BMW across the center line of FM 741 near US Highway 175 and struck Farley's Chevy Silverado head-on. Constable Farley died at the scene of the accident and Patton was taken to Parkland Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Farley and his wife attended his youngest daughter's dance recital earlier that evening. After dropping his wife and daughter off at their Heartland home, Farley was out getting dinner for his family and was returning home at the time of the accident.

Patton was returning from a tattoo parlor in Greenville, Texas, according to Facebook posts. “I'm pretty sure God reached down and saved [me] from death on this day, on the way home from this tattoo is when I had my wreck...... I love you Lord, You are my SAVIOR!!!!!” reads a June 15th comment posted from Patton on a picture of his new cross tattoo posted on June 9th, the same day as the accident.

According to a December 2012 report from the now deceased Kaufman County Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse, alcohol and other drugs played a role in the accident. Patton's blood alcohol level upon arriving at Parkland Hospital was .086 and evidence of other drugs were found in his system including hydrocodone, Xanax, diazepam (Valium), and nordiazepam (muscle relaxant).

Patton was previously convicted of the offense of driving while intoxicated on June 28, 2002, after entering a plea of guilty or nolo contendre. A $1,250.25 fine was imposed and paid. Patton has also been previously charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana under two ounces, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The court has appointed Taryn Davis of Kaufman, Texas, to represent Patton in this case. Davis did not return inForney.com's request for comment.
