After temperatures in the 70's on Tuesday and Wednesday the weather will take a sharp turn for the worst just before Forney's Christmas on Main this Saturday, December 7, 2013. City officials will be watching the weather closely but say the event is rain or shine unless there are weather conditions that threaten the safety of the event goers.
“As with any city-hosted event, our primary priority is safety. We’re keeping a close eye on the weather, and it does look like Saturday will be a cold day; but that should make it feel more like Christmas when Forney comes together to kick off the holiday season,” said Mayor Darren Rozell.
Temperatures will drop into the high 30's on Wednesday night with a cold front and even lower going into Thursday with an arctic front. The forecast on Thursday calls for a high of 39 degrees with a low of 30 degrees.
Friday will bring the possibility of rain or freezing rain before noon and a slight chance of rain and sleet after noon. The high on Friday will be approximately 34 degrees and a low that night around 24 degrees. Winds between 15 and 20 miles per hour during the day and 10 to 15 miles per hour at night with gusts of 25 and 20 miles per hour respectively.
“A break in the precipitation is expected Friday night into Saturday,” states a Special Weather Statement from the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. “These winter weather events are still days away and there is considerable uncertainty in the eventual thermal profiles and the resulting precipitation types and impacts.”
Currently, forecasts show a 40 percent possibility for precipitation at noon on Saturday.
