Forney, Texas – Icy conditions were to blame for two back-to-back accidents on a Interstate Highway (IH) 20 overpass Thursday night, December 5, 2013.
Emergency crews first responded to a rollover accident involving a red pickup truck just past the IH 20 overpass at Farm-to-Market (FM) 1641 in Kaufman County at approximately 9:00 p.m. The truck just crossed over the bridge when it veered off the right side of highway and began to roll down a steep embankment.
The truck came to a stop upright midway down the embankment. The vehicle's driver, who was walking around the scene, told inForney.com they were okay and no other injuries were reported in the accident.
While emergency crews from the Forney Fire Department and police department were still at the rollover accident, an 18-wheeler crossed the overpass and veered off the left side of the highway, causing it to jackknife.
The left lane of IH 20 remained closed until approximately 12:30 a.m. on Friday morning while a wrecker winched the 18-wheeler back onto the highway for it to be towed. No injuries were reported in this wreck either.
