Forney, Texas – Oncor reported more than 4,000 homeowners without power this morning after a winter storm hit the region hard with freezing rain, sleet, and ice.
Farmers Electric Cooperative also reported approximately 30 of their customers in Kaufman County, north of Forney, were experiencing outages which began at 1:00 a.m. Friday morning, December 5, 2013.
According to Oncor, outages were first reported at approximately 1:00 a.m. this morning and the majority of the outages were reported around 6:00 a.m. A representative told inForney.com, “We are aware of the issue and crews were on their way to assess the damage.” At 9:45 a.m., Oncor spokesperson Kerric Bradford said, "Most of the power has been restored in Forney. We may still experience new outages as temperatures remain below freezing and ice accumulates on our facilities."
Chris Metz, Public Works Director for the City of Forney, said one of the main feeder lines for south Forney has been affected and, once restored, should restore about 80% of the power to the area. Homeowners in Windmill Farms also reported power outages since 6:00 a.m.
Metz also said their sanding crews have begun sanding bridges and other areas of concern.
“Don't go out if you don't have to,” said Assistant City Manager Gina Nash. “It's only going to get worse as temperatures continue to drop.”
