With flu season on the rise in North Texas, the 1st United Methodist Church of Forney, Texas, will be holding one of their free immunizations and flu shot events on January 14, 2014, for eligible children ages two months to 18 years old.

According to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), “The level of flu-like illness is currently classified as “high” in Texas, and medical providers are seeing an increase in flu in multiple parts of the state. Getting vaccinated is the best way for people to protect themselves and their families from the flu .”
The event at 1st United Methodist Church will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on January 14, 2014, at their location on 414 Broad Street. Children are eligible for free immunizations at this clinic if he/she has no insurance, has insurance that does not cover vaccine, has Medicaid, or is an American Indian or Alaskan Native. A current immunization record is necessary to receive this service along with the child being accompanied by their parent or guardian.
The Forney Independent School District has also compiled a list of local clinics providing the flu shot and clinics no longer administering the shot.

Getting vaccinated is the best way to stop the spread of the flu. Additionally, cover all coughs and sneezes, wash hands frequently with soap and water or use hand sanitizer, and stay home if sick, according to DSHS.

- CVS Minute Clinic Forney has them, but only for people over the age of 18.
- Walgreens Pharmacy Forney has them for ages 7 and older.
- Dr. Sandknop Practice in Forney has them for ages 3 and younger and for elderly patients, but only for existing patients. Dr. Kanani in Forney has them for 3 years and older for $30.
- Garland Health Department has them for all ages. They are open from 8-4 M-F and Closed 12-1. $20 for kids and adults shots, $35 for more protection.
- Kroger Rockwall has them for ages 7 and older $28.
- CVS Minute Clinic in Rockwall has them, but for 18months to 3 years they are out. Shots are $31.99 or $44.99 for high dose.
- CVS Minute Clinic in Mesquite has them, but for 18months to 3 years they are out. Shots are $31.99 or $44.99 for high dose.
Where flu shots ARE NOT available:
- Care United Forney is out.
- CVS Pharmacy Forney is out.
- Forney Family Medical is out.
- Dr. Reddy in Forney is out.
- Kaufman County Health Department is not giving any shots right now because they do not have a nurse.
- Care United in Rockwall is out.
