Forney, Texas – Road work on Farm-to-Market (FM) 740 near Travis Ranch and the Rockwall County line has come to a screeching halt after the contractor on the project went out of business during the holidays.

The $9.85 million Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) project includes the widening and rehabilitation of FM 740 from the Rockwall County line to the intersection of FM 740, Ranch Road, and FM 460 – approximately 4 miles.
TxDOT Dallas District Public Information Officer Michelle Releford told inForney.com the news “won't necessarily cause a delay” in the project – which is still expected to be completed by late spring of 2014. The project list shows 102 more days left in construction.
A bonding company is responsible for finding a replacement contractor in the meantime. “They have to find a contractor and negotiate with them to finish at the established bid prices,” said Releford. Any additional time required to complete the project will likely result in additional charges to the bonding company – not the taxpayers.
“We don’t have any estimate on how long it will take the bonding company to get another contractor on board,” said Releford.
