A unanimous vote by the Forney Parks and Recreation Board on Wednesday night, January 15, 2014, brought an adult softball league one step closer to becoming a reality in Forney, Texas.

The proposal will now be presented to the Forney City Council for final approval. If approved, it will be a race to home plate for volunteers and supporters of the measure to get their league established and functional before opening day in July 2014.
As approved by the Parks Board, the City of Forney will essentially be kick starting the league as the City of Forney Adult Softball League, in theory. The soon-to-be elected board members of the new league will need to establish the rules, regulations, affiliations, and procedures.
Because of the lack in availability of playing fields, the league will be restricted to playing on Mulberry Park's Field 1, a baseball field, and will only have a six to eight week long season. Supporters in attendance of Wednesday night's Parks Board meeting felt strongly they could push local officials in obtaining an additional field or fields in the near future.
The Forney Youth Baseball Association will assist the future board in making contacts with equipment suppliers, umpires, referees, and other resources. $5,000 has also been budgeted by the Parks Department for the league to help with startup costs, according to Parks and Recreation Director Richard Curry.
