The Five Star Award was presented to 66 local and county registrars of which only 23 received Exemplary Status – placing Kaufman County in the top five percent of local registrars of approximately 490 statewide.
“This award demonstrates how teamwork and technology can further all of our goals to provide the best service to the residents of Kaufman County that we can,” Kaufman County Clerk Laura Hughes stated in a press release today.
In order to receive this award, the Kaufman County Clerk's office must have met or exceeded criteria set forth by the State of Texas. The criteria include recording 85% or more birth certificates within one business day, special training courses, timelines for filing vital county records, collaborating with other vital registration partners, management of the county registration process, and passing an on-site assessment from an individual from the Texas Department of State Health Services.
“I am so proud of my staff and the exceptional work they do each and every day,” stated Hughes. “And I’m thankful for the good working relationships we have with the four J.P.’s, the local funeral homes, and physicians in Kaufman, because without them, we would not be able to meet the State’s criteria for this award.”
