Forney, Texas – The Forney and North Forney High School swim teams dominated at the 12-4A District Championships swim meet at the Rockwall Aquatic Center this past weekend.

Competing on Saturday, January 25, 2014, both teams brought in a combined three district champions, 12 silver medalists, and 11 bronze medalists. Forney ISD Head Swim Coach Brandon Tunnell, who coaches both Forney and North Forney, was also named 12-4A Boys Coach of the Year.
“The swimmers did awesome on Saturday,” said Coach Tunnell. “We had a very trying season and had to overcome a lot of obstacles but finished strong at district.” The teams were unable to practice in the month of December due to the lack of a venue.
In overall district points, the North Forney High School boys team finished in 2nd, North Forney High School girls team finished in 3rd, and both the Forney High School boys and girls teams finished in 4th. Both boys teams also swept the top three places in the 200 Free, 200 Individual Medley (IM), and the 500 Free.
According to Tunnell, both teams qualified 25 out of a total of 27 swimmers for the Regional Championships on February 7-8, 2014, which will be held in Frisco at the Frisco ISD Natatorium.
North Forney High School's Victor Huff finished as the district champion in the 500 Free and also received a silver medal in the 200 Free. Harrison Wick also finished as a district champion in the 200 IM and received a silver medal in the 100 Fly. Matthew Jenkin received the silver medal in the 500 Free and a bronze medal in the 200 Free. RJ Cervantez received the silver medal in the 200 IM and a bronze medal in the 100 Back. Kenny Clark received a bronze medal in the 200 IM, Jacob Woods received a silver medal in the 100 Back, Chelsea Edmonds received a bronze medal in the 100 Fly, and Chris Hildebrant received a bronze medal in the 500 Free.

North Forney High School girls team swimmers Kristen Barbour, Christi Mendez, Chelsea Edmonds, and Amy Hawkins received silver medals in the 200 Medley Relay. Hawkins, Barbour, Mendez, and Edmonds received silver medals in the 200 Free Relay. Hawkins, Barbour, Mendez, and Edmonds received silver medals in the 400 Free Relay.
Forney High School swimmer Colt Smith finished as the district champion in the 200 Free and also received a bronze medal in the 100 Fly. Demoray King received a bronze medal in the 100 Breast. Brooke Putnam received a silver medal in the 100 Breast and a bronze medal in the 50 Free. Staci Barker received a bronze medal in the 100 Breast.
