The dive team was on the lake for a majority of the day on Wednesday, February 19, 2014, near the Two Mile Bridge which spans Lake Tawakoni on State Highway 276.
“DPS is doing a search based on a lead that we received on a potential piece of evidence that may be out there,” said Captain Fred Klingelberger, Public Information Officer for the Kaufman County Sheriff's Office. He could not confirm a link to any particular case.
Depending on weather and schedules, the DPS dive team may return to the lake tomorrow to continue the search.
An anonymous law enforcement source told WFAA investigators were searching for evidence related to the Eric and Kim Williams murder trials who were charged last year in the murders of Kaufman County Assistant District Attorney Mark Hasse, Kaufman County District Attorney Mike McLelland, and his wife, Cynthia.
A motion for a change of venue was granted in Eric Williams' capital murder trial on January 24, 2014, by visiting Dallas County District Judge Mike Snipes. The trial was moved from Kaufman County to Rockwall County.
