Upon their arrival, they discovered the small fires had quickly spread and engulfed nearby brush with the help of high winds and dry conditions. Fire departments from Seagoville, Crandall, Mesquite, Terrell, and Kaufman responded as mutual aid along with the Kaufman County Emergency Management Office. The Kaufman County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire which consumed approximately 15 to 20 acres, according to authorities on scene.
Over an hour later, the coordinated efforts of all the responding agencies contained the fire and prevented it from spreading to nearby structures. One Forney firefighter required brief medical attention for rehab from an East Texas Medical ambulance and was released on scene.
Due to the rural location of the fire, firefighters had to locate nearby fire hydrants to keep tanker trucks full as additional tankers arrived from surrounding areas. Firefighters remained on the scene and continued to battle hotspots within the burn area and were ultimately able to eliminate all threats of any further spreading or flare-ups.
FM 740 was briefly closed because of the large amount of fire apparatus on scene.
