FORNEY, TEXAS – Before the candidate filing deadline for a place on the upcoming May 10, 2014, ballot, it was apparent there would be contested races for both the Forney City Council and Forney Independent School District Board of Trustees.

On the city side, Place 1 Council member Darrell Hobbs is running unopposed. Place 3 Council member Robbie Powers drew an opponent, Debbie McCalpin. Lastly, Place 5 Council member Mary Penn also drew an opponent, Sara Gresham Parker.
On the school side of the election, Place 1 Board member Becky Dobbs did not seek re-election but three people filed for her seat: former Board member John L. Taylor, DDS; Cheryl Creech Mason; and Barbara Jo Green – listed in the order they filed.
For Forney ISD Place 2, incumbent Board member Greg Pharris also drew an opponent in Tim Danziger.
