At approximately 11:25 p.m. last night, March 6, 2014, the 18-wheeler veered off the right shoulder of westbound U.S. Highway 80 just after the Windmill Farms Boulevard exit and before the overpass. The accident and recovery of the Arpin America tractor and trailer, a moving company based out of Dallas, Texas, caused two lanes of travel on westbound U.S. Highway 80 to be closed until approximately 9:00 a.m. this morning, according to officials.
Three wreckers were used at the scene: one was used to tow away the wrecked tractor; one was used to haul the trailer; and another was used to haul away the front axle of the tractor which separated from the tractor at the time of the accident.
Westbound traffic was diverted off the highway at Windmill Farms Boulevard and re-entered the highway after the overpass. The closure caused major delays for westbound traffic on the highway and for residents of Windmill Farms, a large master-planned community, trying to access the highway.
No injuries were reported as a result of the accident. The recovery of the 18-wheeler lasted approximately 10 hours.
