The Kaufman County Sheriff's Office arrested 41-year-old Jeremy Irvin and 32-year-old Shawna Smith. Irvin fled from the residence on Farm-to-Market (FM) 987 when Kaufman County Sheriff's deputies made contact with him but was quickly captured and taken into custody.

According to Kaufman County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Captain Fred Klingelberger, the deputies noticed a large amount of US currency printed on plain white paper during the arrest and a search warrant was obtained and executed for the residence.

Counterfeit $20 dollar bills have recently surfaced in Kaufman, Texas, and other areas of Kaufman County at local retail establishments. Citing an early and ongoing investigation, Klingelberger could not speculate if there is a link between the two incidents but did indicate $20 dollar bills were seized during the execution of the search warrant.

Irvin is currently booked in the Kaufman County Jail on two forgery charges with $25,000 bonds each and fraudulent use or possession of identifying information of less than five items with an additional bond of $25,000. Irvin is also held on a failure to identify as a fugitive from justice charge, two holds from Dallas County, and a hold from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Smith is also booked in the Kaufman County Jail with a forgery charge and a $10,000 bond and a fraudulent use or possession of identifying information of less than five items with a bond of $5,000.

Irvin has previous convictions in Kaufman County for forgery, possession of a controlled substance, and credit card abuse dating back to 1999.
