The house on Homeplace Lane, just east of Crandall, Texas, and Murphy Lake, was fully involved when firefighters arrived, according to Crandall Fire Department Chief Allen Cousins. Firefighters initially attempted to make entry but were forced to pull out.
“The fire was already coming out the front door when we arrived,” said Cousins. The residents of the home made it out safely before the house was completely consumed by the fire. A small portion of the southeast wall of the home is all that remained standing after the fire was extinguished.
Fire operations at the home ended at approximately 11 a.m. The Kaufman County Fire Marshal Larry Ewing was at the scene investigating the cause of the fire. Although the fire was initially called in as an oven fire, an investigation will be conducted to determine a definite cause of the fire.
Kaufman, Scurry, and Seagoville Fire Departments were called to the scene for mutual aid. A Kaufman Fire Department ladder truck was deployed to fight the fire from above. The Combine Fire Department was also on standby at the Crandall Fire Department to assist with any additional emergency calls.
