KAUFMAN, Texas – The Kaufman Independent School District placed their campuses on "soft" lockdown earlier this morning after an 11-year-old student reported several men attempted to abduct her and take her into a wooded area next to Lucille Nash Elementary. The abduction story has since been determined to be untrue by authorities.

Normal classroom activity resumed under the "soft" lockdown, according to Kaufman ISD Superintendent Lori Balylock. Students remained in their classrooms but were prohibited from being outside of the school buildings.
As a precautionary measure, several area daycares were also placed on lockdown by the Kaufman Police Department. All lockdowns were lifted at approximately 10:50 a.m. after a search was conducted.
According to Kaufman Police Department Captain Ed Black, a search for the alleged male suspects began at approximately 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday morning, March 26, 2014. “We setup a perimeter, called out a helicopter from DPS, and they utilized their FLIR [thermal imaging] system,” said Black. “We determined there wasn't anything out there.”
The Kaufman County Sheriff's Office, Constable’s Office Precinct 1, Fire Marshal's Office, and several other emergency services assisted in the search of the wooded area. Texas Department of Public Safety's Unit 101 assisted in the aerial search.
The student's story continued to change as investigators continued to ask her additional questions about the incident. Students also recently talked about homeless people living in the wooded area which may have driven the student's imagination.
