FORNEY, Texas – The Forney Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run accident involving a male bicyclist who was struck by a vehicle last night, May 30, 2014, on the U.S. Highway 80 north service road.

The accident occurred at approximately 8:21 p.m. on the service road just after the Bank of America parking lot. Accident investigators were working the accident scene into the night with the aid of utility lights on Forney Department's Engine 1, during which time the north service road was closed. Investigators were seen taking measurements and collecting other evidence at the accident scene.
According to the Forney Police Department, the vehicle which struck the bicyclist is described as a dark colored four-door passenger car. Police also say the passenger door is painted a different color than the rest of the body of the car. The Forney Police Department has notified surrounding law enforcement agencies of the vehicle description.
An eyewitness to the accident said the bicyclist was traveling westbound on the service road before being struck by the suspect's vehicle. The bicyclist is described by the Forney Police Department as a white male. The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of family.
The pedestrian was transported to Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, in critical condition. The bicyclist was unresponsive when emergency responders arrived at the scene.
The service road was re-opened at 10:05 p.m.
