FORNEY, Texas – The newly installed traffic signal at Farm-to-Market (FM) 548 and Ridgecrest Road became fully operational at 11 a.m. this morning, June 2, 2014.

The much-needed traffic signal has been in the works since December 2013 after the Texas Department of Transportation submitted preliminary signal plans to the City of Forney for review.
“We have been working with TxDOT to get a light at this intersection since 2007. Those of us who drive through that intersection have felt for some time that a signal was warranted, and finally, TxDOT's analysis has confirmed it,” Forney Mayor Darren Rozell told inForney.com in December 2013.
The signal couldn't come any sooner for area drivers who cite high speeds and low visibility conditions which make it difficult to maneuver the intersection, especially during high traffic – rush hour and nearby school pickup, drop-off, and release times.
TxDOT construction crews put the final touches on the intersection this morning including the new roadsigns which alert of the approaching traffic signal. TxDOT will continue to monitor the timing of the intersection in the coming weeks. According to Assistant City Manager Gina Nash, TxDOT will be requested for re-timing in August after school begins to ensure proper timing with accurate school related traffic counts.
The speed limit at the intersection of Ridgecrest Road and FM 548 was previously reduced from 55 miles per hour to 50 miles per hour in February 2014. Read more on those speed reductions, here.
