FORNEY, Texas – The Forney Independent School District Board of Trustees named Forney ISD Deputy Superintendent Mrs. Suzanne McWilliams as the lone finalist for superintendent of schools during a special called board meeting on Monday, June 2, 2014.

The board unanimously approved the action following the resignation of current Forney ISD Superintendent Michael Holland who recently accepted the Executive Director position with the Region VI Education Service Center in Huntsville, Texas.
McWilliams first joined Forney ISD in 2010 as the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction. She was named the Deputy Superintendent for the District in 2011.
McWilliams has more than 34 years of experience in the field of education beginning her career as a first, third, fifth grade and physical education teacher for students at Canton Elementary School in the Canton Independent School District in 1980. She moved into education administration in 1990 as the Assistant Principal of J.E. Rhodes Elementary School in the Van Independent School District before becoming the Principal at Van Intermediate School in 1992.
In 1998, McWilliams moved into central administration with Van ISD. During her 12 years in central administration she was the Executive Director of Human Resources the Technology Director and the District’s supervisor of principals and the special programs department. Prior to joining Forney ISD in 2010, McWilliams was the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction in Van ISD.
“I am humbled and honored that the Forney ISD Board of Trustees have given me this opportunity to lead in this wonderful District. It is a joy to work with the outstanding team of teachers, staff and administrators here in Forney ISD,” McWilliams said. “This District, and everyone involved with it mean so much to me. I have also enjoyed getting to know the parents and community members through our Forward Focus program and I am excited about the plans we have created for our District’s future. I look forward to working with them to help Forney ISD inspire learning in the hearts and minds of our students.”
McWilliams received her bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Texas at Tyler and earned a Master’s in Education from Texas A&M Commerce. She holds teaching certifications in Elementary Art and Elementary Self Contained and has completed the Mid-Management Certification and the Superintendent Certification. McWilliams is a State Board Member of the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development and is a Certified Education Foundation Executive.
State law requires a 21 day wait period after a lone finalist is announced before the board can enter into contract with the finalist. The Forney ISD Board of Trustees have a special meeting called for Tuesday, June 24 to vote on their final selection.
