FORNEY, Texas – A Forney woman has been arrested for the hit-and-run accident involving a bicyclist which left a Mesquite man in intensive care.

According to the Forney Police Department, 42-year-old Melida Nava of Forney, Texas, turned herself in on Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at approximately 11:30 a.m. – four days after striking the man now identified as Barry Richardson of Mesquite, Texas, on the north service road of U.S. Highway 80.
The accident occurred on Friday, May 30, 2014, at approximately 8:21 p.m. when Richardson was traveling westbound on the north service road where he was struck by Nava and thrown from his bike with severe injuries. Nava then failed to stop and render aid.
An out-of-state witness to the accident provided crucial information to the Forney Police Department including a vehicle description and license plate number. The Forney Police Department was able to link the license plate number provided by the witness to Nava at the time of the accident.
According to the Forney Police Department, warrants were later issued for Nava for aggravated assault and accident involving personal injury or death, second and third degree felonies, respectively. Nava is now being held at the Forney Police Department Jail on bonds totaling $35,000.
Richardson is in the intensive care unit at Baylor University Medical Center, according to authorities.
According to a family member who spoke out on Facbeook about the accident, Richardson “loved riding his bike places [instead] of driving.” Richardson was riding his bike to a family member's house at the time of the accident.
