FORNEY, Texas – The Forney Independent School District Board of Trustees raised more than $8,000 for scholarships at the inaugural Forney ISD Board of Trustees Sunset Scramble Scholarship Golf Tournament which was held on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Creekview Golf Course in Crandall, Texas. The money raised from the tournament will go towards scholarships for a senior from Forney High School and North Forney High School from this year’s graduating classes.
“We are very excited about that fact that we were able to raise a significant amount of money through the tournament that will go to help graduates from Forney High School and North Forney High School continue their education in college,” said Keith Bell, President of the Forney ISD Board of Trustees. “We had a tremendous amount of support from the community and local businesses with the tournament. It is because of their donations, participation and contributions to the tournament that we are able to award these scholarships to deserving students at both Forney High School and North Forney High School.”
The Forney ISD Board of Trustees Sunset Scramble Scholarship Golf Tournament is a unique tournament. The format for the tournament involves two-person teams playing in a Florida Scramble format through nine holes of golf played in daylight. All of the teams are then put into flights based on their score on the first nine holes and then teams return to the course to play the second nine holes of the tournament at night using glow-in-the-dark golf balls.
A number of businesses helped the Board raise the money for the scholarships with their sponsorships and donations to the tournament. RW Baird, a wealth management company was the main sponsor for the tournament. Other key sponsors for the tournament included Walsh, Anderson, Gallegos, Green & Treviño, P.C.; Gallagher Construction; Perdue Brandon Fielder Collins and Mott; Specialized Public Finance and Andrews Kurth.
Additional businesses sponsoring the tournament included Intex, Forney Wellness Center, RLK, City Bank, Lake Point Medical, Copier Connection, Pollock, Creative Risk Funding, Direct Energy, RBC Capital, WRA Architects, Joe Dan McBeth State Farm and TCG Group Holdings.
All graduating students at Forney High School and North Forney High School can apply for the Forney ISD Board of Trustees scholarships that will be offered with the funds raised from the tournament. Students should contact the campus counselors for the scholarship applications.
The Forney ISD Board of Trustees will announce the scholarship winners at the FISD Board of Trustees regular monthly board meeting which is scheduled for Monday, May 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the board room located at the District’s Central Administration building.
