Forney, Texas – US Highway 80 was closed for several hours after another 18-wheeler accident between FM 460 and the Broad Street exit. The accident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night, May 11, 2013.
The 18-wheeler veered off the right shoulder down the steep embankment, causing it to jackknife. The truck's fuel tanks ruptured and caused an explosion that many witnesses saw and heard. One witness said the flames shot at least 30 feet in the air. Forney Fire Department responded with the department's three largest engines and other rigs to combat the fire.
The Forney Police Department closed both eastbound lanes of traffic and allowed vehicles to exit on the FM 460 on-ramp. No other vehicles were involved in the accident and the driver's condition is still unknown.
