FORNEY, Texas – The Forney Fire Department fought a large and fast-moving grass fire south of U.S. Highway 80 near the Gateway Bridge development. The fire was reported at approximately 2:50 p.m. on Friday afternoon, June 20, 2014, and a majority of the fire was contained by 4 p.m.

The pasture involved in the fire was recently cut to bale hay. Southern containment of the fire prevented it from threatening homes on County Road 212.
The Forney Fire Department received assistance from the Forney Volunteer Fire Department, the Terrell Volunteer Fire Department, and the Crandall Volunteer Fire Department. The Kaufman County Fire Marshal's Office was also on scene. An East Texas Medical Center ambulance provided rehab for the firefighters.
